Teresa Barger
Teresa Barger is the CEO and Co-Founder of Cartica, an alternative asset management firm focused on the emerging markets. Cartica pursues a long-only strategy and holds a concentrated portfolio of 20-30 diverse companies. Cartica is a majority women-owned and women-led firm.
Teresa spent 21 years at the International Finance Corporation, investing in emerging market companies globally.At IFC, among other positions, she was Division Manager for Africa, Deputy Director of Credit / Investment Review, and Director of Private Equity and Investment Funds.
Teresa also developed the first two corporate governance-focused funds in the emerging markets - for Korea and Brazil. She was subsequently Director of Corporate Governance and Securities Market Development.In that position, she was responsible for the governance aspects of IFC investments and using governance as a value addition strategy.
Prior to joining IFC, Teresa was an Engagement Manager at McKinsey & Company for four years.
She is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and serves on the boards of American University in Cairo and ANERA.She also serves on the Advisory Council for the Pacific Pension and Investment Institute, the Global Corporate Governance Forum, and Lumia Capital.
Teresa graduated magna cum laude from Harvard College with a B.A. degree and received her MBA from the Yale School of Management. In addition, she completed post-graduate work at the American University in Cairo.
